Yin-Storative Yoga IN-PERSON
Course Description
Welcome to our 75-minute combo class of yin and restorative yoga. Though they might seem the same, yin and restorative yoga are distinct practices with distinct goals and origins. Yin postures are active and seek to interact with the layers of fascia that cover our muscles. In restorative yoga, you are more likely to be supported by props and able to melt into the pose without feeling much physical sensation - it's more pure relaxation. In yin yoga, you use props to dial in the right amount of sensation, called "the edge", so that you experience that edgy feeling (like a strong sensation of stretch) while you are still and breathing. In both practices, most of the poses are done on the floor. Both are appropriate for all healthy students and for most injuries, but not all. We will start class with yin postures, then move to restorative postures, then we will close class with a meditation or pranayama (breathing) practice. We will often practice by candlelight. Jane and Mindy are the two teachers for this class. We aim to alternate weeks.
